Which Peg is for Me?

Wire Pegs are an eco-friendly alternative to plastic clothes pegs. They are durable, reusable and they last. At Flora & Fauna, we have plenty of clothes pegs available including bamboo pegs and stainless steel pegs. But how do you choose the peg for you?

Bamboo pegs are lightweight and biodegradable so perfect to use every day. We also have plenty of stainless steel pegs, but which one do you need and what's the difference between 201 and 304? What does that even mean?

We have different sizes, different strengths and different quality steel and the pegs you need depend on where you live, what you plan to use the pegs for and how you plan to store the pegs.

Generally the higher the number the better the quality of steel and less corrosive it is. The bigger the diameter, the stronger the peg, so it is better with heavier garments and in windier conditions.

Stainless Steel Peg Guide

Grade 201 Pegs:  The 201 grade stainless steel pegs are standard pegs. They come in 1.75mm width for normal conditions and light clothes and 2mm diameter steel for windy conditions and heavier garments. Use the 1.75mm pegs for socks, t-shirts and light clothes. If you are hanging sheets and towels we recommend sturdier pegs so go for the 201 pegs with a 2mm diameter. We do not recommend you leave these pegs outside as they will corrode over time. If you wish to leave outside look at the 316 marine grade stainless steel pegs. Great if you have an apartment, balcony or unit. Perfect to get started with stainless steel pegs.

Grade 304 PegsThese pegs have more durable stainless steel. Higher corrosion resistance and can be left outside (although not recommended for long periods). Ideal for most homes and most conditions. If you live in a particularly windy area, and have heavy clothes, consider using stronger 2mm pegs rather than the 1.8mm pegs. If you have a family or larger home you might choose these pegs and mix and match with some 201 pegs.

Grade 316 PegsThe toughest steel that won't corrode in even the harshest environment. Marine grade steel is designed for salty conditions so you can leave outside and they won't corrode. These are available in two strengths, 1.7mm and 2mm. If you live by the ocean these pegs are for you.

Stronger Pegs: If you live in a windy area, or want some strong pegs, you might want to consider buying the 2mm size pegs which are available in three grades of steel so 210, 304 and 316.

Our clothes pegs are available at Flora & Fauna along with other eco laundry products
