What Is Global Recycling Day?

Every year on March 18th, we recognise the people, places, businesses and initiatives that have contributed to global recycling efforts. For many years, recycling has played an integral role in our waste and recovery system. By recycling materials like sturdy plastic, paper, cardboard, metal, aluminium and glass, we’re extending the life of these valuable materials and preventing them from degrading in landfill.

We know that recycling isn’t the solution to our global waste problem, but it promotes a circular economy, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing and refurbishing materials to extend the life cycle of a product.

Extending the life of a material, reduces our dependence on resources like fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) and prevents plastic from entering landfill and degrading into harmful microplastics.

Global Recycling Day 2022 | #RecyclingHeroes

Each year, ten winners are chosen as Global Recycling Day’s #RecyclingHeroes! The purpose is to find these unsung heroes in communities all around the world and celebrate their work in promoting a sustainable waste system. Do you have anyone in mind? Maybe it’s your local cafe or a young person in your community that’s driving real change. Help these recycling heros be recognised!

“Nominations are invited from individuals, communities and businesses who have continued to make significant impact towards recycling in the last 12 months and whose efforts will contribute towards a greener future of our world,” he says. Please send the details of your nomination to info@globalrecyclingfoundation.org — closing date is March 8th!

Recycle With Flora & Fauna & Receive A $10 Store Credit!

Let's face it… some items are difficult to recycle. Say, for example, you finish a mascara, a container of floss, and a plastic container of foundation — how do you dispose of them?

Easy! Here at Flora & Fauna, we have Our Recycling Program where we recycle odd bits and pieces for you. Beauty and body-related packaging is especially difficult to recycle, so that’s why we accept plastic makeup and skincare containers, as well as toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner bottles, razor handles, and floss containers.

We also recycle miscellaneous items like blister packs and bread tags. Once you’ve packed a box of recyclables and send it to us, we will add 200 reward points to your account ($10 credit) and send you an email to confirm this.

These F&F Products Have Been Given A Second Life!

At Flora & Fauna, we have a few products made from recycled rubber, recycled plastic, and even recycled wine bottles! These products show how recycling can not only extend the life of a material, but actually help to create something entirely new.

Nothing demonstrates this better than Mojo Candle Co’s reclaimed bottle candles made from reclaimed wine and beer bottles. Happy Planet Toys are another goodie, made from recycled plastic milk bottles, free from BPA and Phthalates.

We also love Full Circle — They use Bonterra™ plant plastic, bamboo, cellulose, and recycled plastic to make these durable, effective and stylish cleaning utensils. Check out Flora & Fauna’s upcycled and recycled products for more examples!

Check out Global Recycling Day for more information about how to nominate people, places, businesses and initiatives who are doing amazing work to promote recycling! Plus, we’d love you to read more about Our Recycling Program. By sending us your hard-to-recycle items, you’re preventing waste from going to landfill and earning yourself a $10 store credit — it’s a win-win!
