By now I am sure many of you have heard about the benefits of charcoal. It seems to be popping up everywhere, in toothpaste, tooth powder, toothbrushes, face masks, deodorants to name a few. My 70 year old Mum has even heard about it and is now plastering her bathroom with charcoal toothpaste.
But what is activated charcoal and how is it different to charcoal?
Activated Charcoal and Charcoal are both made from Carbon but Activated Charcoal is typically made from burnt coconut shell or bamboo and has oxygen added, via steam distillation, to make it more porous and increase the surface area. Activated Charcoal has excellent absorbency properties so it’s ideal to remove toxins, grime, dirt and sebum. Activated Charcoal is also a non irritant so perfect for sensitive skin and can be used in a wide variety of products. It's a great, natural way to help with oily and congested skin.
You can find charcoal used in our wide range of charcoal toothbrushes where the bristles are great at removing toxins from your teeth and gums. Activated charcoal is also found in toothpaste and toothpowder including the My Magic Mud range, Numy toothpaste and Pearl Bar toothpaste. With natural ingredients these toothpastes and powders detox the teeth and also help to whiten teeth but without the nasty chemicals. And yes they do work.
We’re also finding deodorants containing activated charcoal including Numy deodorant. We’ve always loved natural deodorant and, with charcoal, the toxin absorbing properties are even greater to help draw toxins away from your body and keep you fresh during the day.
And Charcoal is being used in skin care including face masks, face scrubs and more. Sukin have a fantastic range of affordable products using charcoal and they are great for oily, congested skin. Green + Kind has an amazing Activated Charcoal and Pink Clay soap which is all natural, nourishing and great for congested skin.
