Self-Care At Home

Apr 09, 2020by Olivia - F&F

During this extended period of self-isolation, many of us have already had our weekly routines turned upside down. Even though we’re at home, it doesn’t mean that we have to miss out on life’s little pleasures!

Maybe for you, getting a facial was the best part of your week. Or, maybe it was going for a manicure with your friends. It’s okay to admit that you miss these things! Although they’re not ‘essential’ activities, these routines can really help to put your mind at ease during this stressful time and give you some 'you' time.

Let's create a mini spa at home!

Here at Flora & Fauna, we have your self-care needs covered. You can relax knowing that your self-care routine is good for you, always cruelty-free and free of harsh chemicals.

If you’re missing… MANICURES & PEDICURES

You don’t have to be a professional nail technician to give your nails some TLC. Once a week, schedule time for you and your friends to do a mani/pedi over Zoom or FaceTime! It might feel a bit silly at first, but it’s so important to maintain those social and self-care routines.

If you want to replicate the nail salon experience, start by removing all existing nail polish from your nails. We love the all-natural Hanami Water Based Nail Polish Remover

“This is a really good alternative to the commercial nail polish removers. Gentle, smells good and removes nail polish!” – Review by Magda (9/10/2017)

Next, you can clip, file and buff to your heart’s content! This Sienna Glass Nail File is a beautiful, eco-friendly addition to your manicure kit.

“Where has this file been all my life? Finally replaced my old one and this is just so easy to use. High quality and will last a long time” – Review by Jen (2/04/20)

Now for nail polish! A pop of colour, or something neutral? We have so many fabulous nail polish lines from Hanami, Raww, Sienna Byron Bay, Ere Perez, and Kester Black! You can shop all our nail polishes here

We all love that post-hairdresser feeling. So, why not replicate it at home?

We recommended leaving any drastic hair-changes to the professionals – but that’s why we love these semi-permanent hair dyes by Colour Me Organic and Desert Shadow.

These certified organic hair dyes use ayurvedic, natural and organic herbs to create a colour that lasts several weeks. They contain no PPD, ammonia or peroxide – plus they’re available in lots of beautiful shades.

We recommend trying these hair dyes if you’re looking for a natural hair colour that is close to your current hair colour. The dye will develop its colour over three days —leaving you with luscious, vibrant locks.

“The quality of this product is amazing and I would highly recommend it! Great price too!” –  Review by Monica (3/06/2019)

If you’re looking for something to effectively cover up grey hairs we recommend the Desert Shadow hair dyes.

“ This is the best natural colour I've ever used. It works just as well, if not better at colouring my greys, than the normal conventional colours and I have a lot of greys. Will last 6 to 8 weeks.
It does take time but I see it as conditioning my hair. Love this colour, not too dark." - Review by Sadie (

Self Care at Home with Masks and TreatmentsSelf Care at Home with Masks and Treatments

It’s surprising how many spa treatments you can do at home for a fraction of the price. Set aside an hour or two per week for the full spa treatment, or maybe 10-20 minutes per day to relax and reset.

Steam Facial

An at-home steam facial is a really great way to relax your mind and rejuvenate your skin.

Fill a large bowl full of hot water and add a few drops of your favourite essential oils. We recommend the ANSC Tea Tree Essential Oil for oily skin and the Eco. Aroma Lavender Essential Oil for sensitive skin. Keep your face over the bowl over water for 5-10 minutes and let the steam work its magic!

DIY Face Mask

Mixing up your own face mask is fun and simple to do. We love the Butt Naked Masks. To use, simply mix 1-2 teaspoons of the powder with a touch of water until it forms a paste. Apply it on your face (avoiding the eye area) and let sit for 5-10 minutes.

“Love love love this. Best face mask I've ever had and makes my skin feel so clean and clear afterwards” – Review by Vicki (27/04/2019)

For the undereye area, try the Acure Seriously Soothing Under Eye Hydrogels.  These undereye masks help to soothe the appearance of dark circles around your undereye with blue tansy and arnica. Pop them under your eyes for 15-20 minutes for best results.

Remember that keeping a self-care routine is not about achieving perfect skin, hair or nails – it is about prioritising yourself and your mental health. Those quiet, relaxing moments to yourself can work wonders to put your mind at ease.
