Plastic Free July helps create awareness to the plastic pollution problem we currently face. It is a great initiative that encourages people all around the world, to take on the challenge, make the switch and swap out plastics, for better alternatives and reusable options.
As we near the end of July, we are faced with a much bigger challenge, maintenance!
Swapping out plastics, isn't always easy. Having a favourite product can quickly grow into something you want to be using all the time. So making the switch in July, helps you to know what you like and dislike, what products work well for you and what's actually maintainable. This experience helps you to grow and achieve realistic goals throughout your new plastic free and sustainable journey that starts after July.
We thought we would share with you, a few of our teams fave plastic free products that they love and use all year round!
Ever Eco Reusable Organic Cotton Produce Bags
With our Ever Eco Cotton Produce Bags you can now help our planet.
These reusable produce bags can be used at the supermarket for your shopping or everyday essentials, making it easier for you to refuse single use plastics.
Liam loves these produce bags as it helped him remove his dependence on plastic shopping bags at the supermarket. He describes the bags as a beautiful and soft material that is lightweight and easily portable.
As our compost guru, Liam loves the fact that they are also fully compostable and biodegradable.
Green + Kind Reusable Stainless Steel Straws
Plastic straws are a major environmental problem. The plastic ends up in our waterways and landfill, they don't break down easily and either sit there for years or, if they get in our waterways, end up in our marine life.
These Stainless Steel Straws are a great fun and stylish alternative that can be used with juice, smoothies or cocktails. Jess loves using these straws in her smoothies and drinks, as they are reusable and can be easily packed in her purse for on the go! She's super happy that her impact helps reduce the amount of plastic straws entering our ocean.
These straws, include a straw cleaner, making them super easy to clean and reuse. Our Cutlery Sets are another great reusable option that you can also keep in your bag for on the go, to help refuse plastics.
Wrappa Vegan Reusable Food Wraps
Every year the average Australian family uses over 400m of plastic wrap. This ends up in landfill and in our oceans, harming our marine life.
Wrappa Vegan Reusable Food Wraps are made out of cotton and vegetable waxes and are the perfect way to get rid of disposable food wrapping in your home.
These wraps are made in South Australia, and Kylie is a big fan of supporting our home country. They last around 6-12 months, so when it's time to buy a new one Kylie loves the fact that these fabulous wax wraps come in many colours and patterns so she's always able to try something new! She finds that these wraps are suitable for all sized bowls and plates, which is super helpful and makes them easy to use.
Safix Biodegradable Scrub Pad
These unique Scrub Pads are made from natural organic coconut fibres bound together by a non-toxic adhesive.
Matt said, "This is by far the best scrubber I've ever used. It's very effective at scrubbing dishes, countertops, sinks and stoves." All these great results and they didn't require plastic!
He loves that the scrub pad is made of coconut, is biodegradable and home compostable, as it's super easy for him to dispose of, in his compost bin when it reaches its end of life.
These scrub pads are exceptionally hygienic and they stay fresh and effective for months. All you need to do is apply a small amount of soap to the scrub pad, mix with water and wash away!
Shampoo & Conditioner Bars
One thing Julie would like everyone to try is a shampoo bar. Julie switched 3 years ago and hasn't looked back.
"They are what they say they are - shampoo in a bar! Take into the shower and lather with water - I rub straight onto my hair. They lather and clean your hair perfectly, but without all the nasties so no SLS's or parabens, and, of course, plastic-free".
We have lots of shampoo and conditioner bar options at F&F including Ethique, Viva La Body, NueBar and more. Shop plastic-free shampoo.
Plastic Free July isn't a phase, it's a movement! Together we can make a difference and be apart of the solution, not the plastic pollution.
