Learn more about Pinatex

Have you heard about Pinatex? It's a natural, sustainable, vegan, alternative to leather which is made from the fibres of pineapple leaves. And it's pretty amazing!

Pinatex is a beautiful, innovative, material that has been developed over 7 years to use the waste product of the pineapple industry and produce a durable, attractive, ethical alternative to leather. The leaves are the by-product of the pineapple industry so no additional land, water, fertilizers or pesticides need to be used to produce them and the raw material has a very low environmental impact compared to other textile crops. Pinatex also provides additional income for farmers. So all in all a pretty cool material.

The pineapple leaves are produced, collected and processed in the Phillipines. They are then finished in Spain and the result is Pinatex, a non woven material, that is soft yet very strong.

So why Pinatex? Pinatex is not only a better alternative to leather from an animal welfare perspective but also the environment and human health. Toxic chemicals are used in the leather tanning industry which are having significant impacts on the workers health and are entering the local waterways and environment. Pinatex uses no harmful chemicals in its production.

Pinatex is a material which is strong, versatile, breathable, soft, light, flexible, and can be printed on, stitched and cut. We love it!

We absolutely love it as a material of the future and currently sell products with Pinatex including our Pinatex Bags and Wallets.
