When to Plant:

Zone 1: February–May + September - NovemberZone 2: March–June + September - NovemberZone 3: March–SeptemberZone 4: March–June

Soil: The soil should be free draining and not contain excessive nitrogen which will result in excessive foliage growth at the expense of the bulb. The main requirement for onions is potassium, so apply wood ash or potash prior to planting.

Position: Full sun, in a spot that follows leafy green crops such as lettuce or cabbage

How to Plant: Sow the seeds directly into the veggie patch in early autumn if conditions are not too warm, otherwise propagate in a mini greenhouse and then transplant once conditions become milder
