Initial use: When you first open your dummy, it may feel slightly greasy. This is due to a fine layer of oil used to prevent the rubber from drying out. To remove the oil, immerse the dummy in boiling water for five minutes. Allow it to cool, then squeeze the teat to release any trapped water.

You may also notice a natural rubber scent. This is completely normal and safe. The smell will fade over time.

Regular cleaning: To clean your dummy, wash it with mild liquid soap and warm water. Always allow it to air dry and squeeze out any water trapped in the teat.

For extra sterilisation, you can place the dummy in a strainer and pour boiling water over it. Do not leave natural rubber sitting in water, and avoid using a bottle steriliser or dishwasher. Soaking can cause a harmless but unsightly white film known as scale, which can usually be removed with a few soapy washes and thorough drying.

Signs of wear: Over time, natural rubber may darken and develop a slightly sticky texture. This is a sign the dummy should be replaced.

When to replace: All dummies, including our coloured natural rubber dummies, should be replaced every 8–12 weeks with regular use. However, you can use them longer if there’s no damage and they’re carefully inspected before each use, especially if your child has teeth.

Safety tips: Always inspect the dummy before each use. Pull it in all directions and discard it at the first sign of wear or damage.

Do not attach cords or ribbons to dummies, especially when your child is unsupervised, as they pose a strangulation hazard.
