Bokashi One Mix to be used with Bokashi One Composters

This mix can be used with Bokashi One Composters to accelerate fermentation. Each bag weighs 1 kg and is approximately 4 Litres in volume.

Bokashi One Mix is a mixture of wheat bran, sawdust, rice husks, and micro-organisms. Bokashi One Mix is dried thoroughly so it can be stored for years with no loss of effectiveness. The dry ingredients in the mix are a carrier and food source for the micro-organisms which are dormant when dry in the packaging and activate again when added to your waste. Bokashi One Mix is now vegan too!

Bokashi One Mix ferments the waste in the Bokashi One™ Bucket and helps to eliminate unpleasant odours. When the waste is buried in the soil, the mix accelerates the breakdown of the waste and adds life and nutrients to the soil.

Made in Australia. Packaged in a Resealable Zip Lock bag.

Bokashi make composting easy at home. Use the Bokashi kit and mix to start composting in the kitchen or the Enso Pet to start disposing of and composting dog poop in the garden. Bokashi is now vegan too - we haven't previously been able to stock Bokashi as the mix wasn't vegan, thankfully it now is. Bokashi is Australian Owned.

Start Composting

  1. Position the plastic grate on the ledge near the bottom of the bucket with the knob upright. Make sure the tap is in the off position.
  2. Place your kitchen waste in the bucket and sprinkle a handful of Bokashi One Mix over every layer of waste. As a guide, use approximately 1 tablespoon of mix for every cup of waste.
  3. Check that the lid is closed tightly at all times.
  4. Regularly drain the Bokashi juice produced using the tap at the base of the bucket.
  5. Repeat this layering process until the Bokashi One bucket is full.
  6. Once full, the waste is ready to be buried.
  7. If you have two Bokashi One buckets, begin the process again in your second bucket, allowing the contents of the first bucket to continue to ferment. Continue to drain off the bokashi juice regularly.
  8. Wash your Bokashi One bucket after each use.
Note: the waste does not break down in the bucket; it is fermenting and will reduce in volume as it loses water content. Complete breakdown of the waste and the composting process occurs when it is buried in the soil
Bury Your Compost
  • Dig a hole or trench approximately 20-25cm deep. Add the Bokashi waste and mix in some soil. Cover the waste completely with soil. Now forget about it – there’s nothing else to do! Your soil has begun to be enriched on a microbial level.
  • For established gardens, dig the hole around plants or between rows of trees.
  • Be sure roots of very young plants do not come into direct contact with the compost as it may burn them. The compost is acidic when first dug in, but neutralises after 7-10 days. It is best to wait 2 weeks before planting.
  • If you don’t have room to dig a hole every time your bucket needs emptying, you can create a Bokashi compost heap, burying the waste in a regular spot in your garden. Once the waste has completely broken down, use it as a rich top-soil. Bokashi waste can also be added to a conventional compost bin.

Once finished with the plastic bag re-use where possible or recycle with RedCycle.

Mix with microorganisms. 100% vegan.

    Great bokashi mix

Excellent for my bokashi bins and speeding up my inground composters. I use the liquid produced as a natural fungicide.

    So easy to use

I am new to composting and this is a great system, it is compact and so easy to use. I love using the juice to fertilise my plants and I love that my red bin has hardly anything in it to go to landfill!
