3 Things You Can Do This Sustainable September

Aug 27, 2021by Gabby - F&F

To live sustainably means, we need to meet the needs of the present without compromising future generations.

Living sustainably however, is sometimes easier said then done. Particularly due to the fact that so many people in the world have access and are able to live beyond their needs. So why wouldn't they? Well, whilst not immediate, these unsustainable actions have long-term consequences.

For example, anytime you leave your electronics plugged in overnight, throw away something that could be reused or recycled, or drive somewhere you could have walked, you are compromising our sustainable future.

We're all guilty of doing one of those things, which is why Sustainable September is here to bring about some awareness to our actions. Many people do not even realise where they are going wrong or where they could be doing better.

So we've provided you with 3 things you can do, to make a difference this Sustainable September!

Reduce Your Food Waste

Composting is a great way to reduce your food waste. But before we get into that, let's take a look at what we can do first. How about reuse your foodscraps? Start collecting your food scraps to make a delicious veggie stock. You can reduce your plastic in the kitchen with our freezer safe Reusable Silicone Food Pouches. Simply pop your food scraps in, and pull them out when you're ready to make dinner.

You can also freeze your leftover food, so no food has to go to waste. It's also super convenient to heat up on those nights you just don't feel like cooking.

Once you've taken all those things into consideration, you can compost and we have some lovely Composters to help get you started. If you're a garden lover, we encourage you to grow your own fresh food with our beautiful Seeds

Repair or Repurpose

We mentioned earlier, some ways you can reduce your waste, but we want to give you another thing to think about. Before you discard items after using them only once or throw away something you think is defective, try repair or repurpose them first! Clothes being a major culprit.

Some great examples of products we stock that have been repurposed include our Coconut Bowls, which are made from discarded coconut shells. Our Mojo Candles which are made from reclaimed wine and beer bottles. Felvarrom who make very functional, wallets, bags and accessories out of old bike inner tubes, and the list goes on!

Most of us are in lockdown at the moment and repairing or repurposing is a great way to keep you busy and get your creative minds thinking.

This September, be more mindful about your actions. Think about what changes you can make, to do your part in making a difference. For more sustainable tips and tricks, see here
