Use the change in seasons as an opportunity to rethink old eating habits, fill your diet with fresh, colourful fruit and vegetables, and prioritise your mental and physical wellbeing.

Practice Mindful Eating

If you’re someone who likes to scroll through Instagram or smash out emails while you’re eating, it could be sabotaging your digestion. During mealtimes, put down your phone, shut your laptop and focus on the delicious food in front of you.

When you’re distracted from your food, you miss out on sensory cues like the smell, taste, and sight of your food. These cues play a crucial role in stimulating your digestion to do its job! Plus, when you’re not paying close attention, you’re more likely to overeat and chew poorly – potentially leading to digestive issues and weight gain.

Water is essential for good health. Not only can it help increase energy and relieve fatigue, but it can also help flush out toxins, regulate temperature, improve skin complexion, maintain regularity, and even combat cravings. 

Did you know that your body’s signs of hunger and thirst are pretty much the same? Thirst occurs when your body needs water. When you don’t drink enough water, your body receives mixed signals on hunger, so your body tells you to eat when what you really need is liquid intake. Water bottles are really great for encouraging water intake and we recommend investing in a reusable one.

To minimise exposure to contaminants in your drinking water, it’s a good idea to invest in a good-quality water filter, particularly if your home has lead pipes or brass faucets.

Eat More Wholefoods

A healthy diet filled with unprocessed, plant-based wholefoods rich in fibre, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals may help you experience more energy, better sleep and brighter skin. The simplest rule is to aim for five cups of vegetables a day – three cups 'above the ground' such as green leafy vegetables and two cups 'below the ground' such as root vegetables. 

Make sure to include a healthy fat source in every meal. This could be avocado, nut butter, olive oil or tahini dressing, which ensures you are absorbing vitamins A, D, E and K. These fat-soluble vitamins need fat to be properly absorbed by the body. Complete your meal with a protein source – ideally combining legumes and grains to obtain all the essential amino acids.
