Self-Tanning with Eco Tan

It’s that time of the year where we start to wear fewer clothes and show off more skin. After a long autumn and winter of covering up, our skin tends to look dull and lifeless. Fake tanning isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for some of us – it’s a real confidence boost!

We all know the dangers of acquiring a real tan throughout the summer; here in Australia, the UV rays are especially harmful to our delicate skin. Getting professional spray tans aren’t good for your lungs, either.

So is there a safe, all-natural tanning solution? Yes! Eco Tan is here to help us!

In 2011, mum-of-two Sonya Driver created Eco Tan: the first and only tanning manufacturer to be certified organic by the Organic Food Chain under the Australian Government. The wonderful range of tanning products, moisturisers and exfoliators are vegan, cruelty-free and Accredited Toxic Free by Safe Cosmetics Australia.

Here at Flora & Fauna, we’re extremely proud to support such a fantastic natural brand – that’s why we’ve put together a three-step guide to self-tanning with Eco Tan!

Keep on reading to find out how to achieve a flawless, healthy-looking tan for any occasion.

STEP 1: Exfoliate

Exfoliating your body before applying tan is the most important step in the process! Exfoliating in the shower with a salt scrub or textured glove will ensure a smooth, streak-free tan.

The Eco Tan Certified Organic Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub targets stretch marks, cellulite, dry skin, and pigmentation – but it’s also perfect for scrubbing off old tan and renewing your skin for the tanning process. It’s made with pink Himalayan salt, lemongrass, coconut oil, macadamia oil, and peppermint.

The Eco Tan Exfoliant Glove is another great choice for the skin prepping process. This glove clears away dead skin cells and old skin to reveal smooth, clean skin. It also unclogs pores and helps your skin breathe. It's also great to remove any old tan too!

STEP 2: Tan

After your skin is clean and smooth, it’s time to apply your tan. Depending on how dark you want your tan and your preferred consistency, (mousse, water, or cream) Eco Tan is sure to have the perfect product for you.

The Eco Tan Cacao Tanning Mousse Dark is easy to apply and develops in just one hour. The lightweight, non-sticky formulation allows you to get dressed immediately – and with most mousse products, your tan will become darker the longer you leave in on. This tan is best applied with a tanning mitt for smooth, even coverage.

The Eco Tan Hempitan Body Tan Water is the first of its kind! This tanning water delivers a deep, long-lasting tan due to the moisturising properties of Hemp Seed Extract. It can be applied with hands or a tanning mitt.

The Eco Tan Organic Invisible Tan is a best-seller! This cream-based tan is perfect if you desire a deep, dark colour. It can be applied with your hands, just like a moisturiser.

And to tan your face, we recommend the Eco Tan Certified Organic Face Tan Water. Applying normal fake tan to your face isn’t the best idea. It can often produce patchy, dry looking skin and clog your pores in the process. The Eco Tan Face Water was specifically formulated for your face – it won’t clog your pores, and it reduces the need for foundation. It can be applied just like a toner with a cotton pad or one of our Green + Kind Reusable pads.

And you'll need something to apply your tan with, right? We love the Eco Tan Double Sided Tan Applicator Mitt. The fluffy side is for mousses and creams and the smooth side is for tanning waters. It's super luxurious and gives a professional tanning result every time!

STEP 3: Moisturise

After waiting to achieve your desired darkness, it’s best to wash off your tan in the shower and moisturise. A light moisturiser will increase the longevity of your tan and ensure the tan doesn’t fade unevenly.

For a daily moisturiser, the Coconut Body Milk is a great all-rounder for the whole family. With a luxurious blend of organic aloe vera, coconut oil, and avocado, the Coconut Body Milk soothes skin and delivers intense nourishment. It’s suitable for all skin types, skin conditions, and sensitive skin.

We also love the Eco Tan Organic Winter Skin, a daily gradual tanning moisturiser which is perfect to use throughout the winter to achieve a gentle glow, or through the summer to help the upkeep of your existing tan.

So, when applying any Eco Tan product to your skin, you are safe with the knowledge that they have been made with natural ingredients like cacao, fruit extracts, chamomile, herbs, and flower extracts, and contain no toxic chemicals or animal cruelty in the manufacturing process.

Happy tanning!
