World Vegan Day In Australia

World Vegan Day, celebrated every year on November 1st, is a day to celebrate veganism and some of its life-changing benefits. Australians love World Vegan Day, but sadly, the past couple of years have looked different due to the pandemic — especially in Melbourne, where the popular World Vegan Day event drew in enormous crowds every year!

Did you know that Australia is in the top 10 most vegan-friendly countries in the world? We’re also the third fastest-growing market for vegan food in the world. Around 2% of Australians have ditched meat and dairy, and this number is growing.

To celebrate in 2021, why not post about your vegan journey with the #WorldVeganDay hashtag and encourage your friends, family and co-workers to go vegan for the day.

3 Reasons To Go Vegan!

#1: Animals — Most vegans believe that exploiting animals for food, clothing and entertainment is inherently wrong and needlessly cruel. Many argue that all sentient creatures have a right to life and freedom, which is why we choose not to consume or wear any animal products or animal by-products!

#2: Environment — The production of meat and dairy requires an enormous amount of land, water and resources. In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, land use, energy use, acidification potential, plus air, water and soil pollution — plant-based foods have the lowest environmental impact.

#3: Health — A well-balanced vegan diet is incredibly healthy and contains all of the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that our bodies need. It's also been known to lower: blood pressure, cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.

People tend to think of veganism as a restrictive “diet”, but that couldn’t be further than the truth! Eating vegan means consuming a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, whole-grains, nuts, seeds, beans, and tofu. As the market for plant-based food grows, we're also lucky to have access to meat-substitutes (chicken, beef, seafood, etc) and vegan dairy products (cheese, yoghurt, butter, ice cream, etc).

Here at Flora & Fauna, we love bringing you Vegan Snacks & Pantry Items. We have a major sweet tooth — that’s why we stock a huge range of Vegan Chocolate and Vegan Baking Items. We have a lot of savoury Vegan Pantry Items, too — like Soy Veggie Mince, Organic Falafel Mix, and Gluten-Free GnocchiWe also love sharing our favourite Vegan Recipes with you! Give one of them a go this World Vegan Day.

Veganism extends to the fashion industry, too! Did you know that billions of cows, sheep, geese, foxes, rabbits and other species are killed or injured every year to make leather, fur, down and wool? With new materials like faux fur and vegan leather, it begs the question — why do we still buy clothing that an animal had to die for?

Here at Flora & Fauna, we’re proud to bring you vegan alternatives to products that traditionally use leather, like handbags and shoes! We have a growing range of Eco Style Products, including Vegan Bags, Women’s Clothing, plus Footwear & AccessoriesBrands like Matt & Nat and Urban Originals are killing it in the faux leather game! Their crossbody bags, tote bags, shoulder bags, clutches and wallets are made from Pinatex (pineapple fibre), vegan leather and cork. We also love Rollie Vegan Shoes!

The veganism movement has come a long way in recent years. Whether it’s food, makeup, skincare, or fashion — vegan and cruelty-free products are definitely on the rise, and more people than ever are choosing compassion over cruelty. That’s definitely worth celebrating on World Vegan Day!
