Detox From Synthetic Haircare, With Sukin’s #10WashChallenge
You’ve just washed your hair, but it’s still feeling weighed down and oily. Plus, your ends are bone dry. Sound familiar? We’ve all been a victim to product build-up, but the good news is that it’s simple to prevent and fix — with natural hair care!
As the name suggests, product build-up occurs when the hair shaft stops absorbing product. Instead, the product sits on top of the hair shaft, effectively weighing the hair down and suffocating each strand. We’ll talk through some of the key ingredients that you need to avoid, and some of the ways to prevent product build-up — but first, let’s talk about Sukin’s #10WashChallenge. This challenge is helping people to detox from synthetic hair care and remove years of product build-up. In just 10 washes, you can shed all of those synthetic nasties that have been weighing your tresses down!

Sukin Says NO To Sulphates & Silicones
We all love the feeling of big bubbly suds and silky ends. But, the two ingredients responsible for these results are nothing more than a superficial magic trick — designed to mimic the look and feel of soft, healthy hair.
Sulphates act as a harsh detergent that strips away the hair’s natural oils. When we strip too much oil from the scalp, it overcompensates in oil production to replace the missing oil. So, you’re left with an oily scalp and dry, frizzy ends. Silicone coats the hair shaft to add a temporary gloss and shine. With repeated use, silicone suffocates and dehydrates the hair shaft — leading to dry, brittle tresses that split and break.
We love Sukin because they say NO to Sulphates and Silicone. Instead, Sukin uses plant-based cleansers to let your natural hair shine through (no magic tricks!).

5 Tips To Prevent Product Build-Up
We know that clarifying shampoos are extremely effective in removing stubborn residue on the hair shaft, but here are five ways to prevent product build-up in the first place. A build-up of products suffocates and dehydrates the hair shaft, so it’s best to get rid of it quickly. Plus, product build-up might be responsible for that extra dandruff you’ve been seeing lately…
- STOP applying hair products that contain silicone, wax or mineral oil — these chemicals are notorious for clinging to the hair shaft.
- AVOID applying too much wax, spray, oil, gel, mousse or cream on the roots and scalp.
- ALWAYS apply products to the ends first, then the root.
- RINSE shampoos and conditioners out thoroughly with lukewarm water.
USE a clarifying shampoo 1-4 times a month, like the Sukin Deep Cleanse Shampoo.
