How to have an Ethical Self Care Routine

Proper self-care is integral to leading a happy, balanced life. Self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness – especially during periods of stress.

Practicing self-care can be accomplished in many different ways and mean something different to everyone. Essentially, it is prioritising our physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social needs above all else.

For some, self-care is a bubble bath, a face mask and a glass of wine. For others, it’s escaping into a fantasy novel and falling asleep earlier than usual. Sometimes, true self-care can’t really be seen – addressing destructive habits, completing a scary task, working towards goals and thinking positive thoughts can be the ultimate forms of self-care.

In our increasingly busy lives, we need to carve out space in the day to relax and unwind.

Here at Flora & Fauna, we stock a huge range of products to help you de-stress after a busy day. The best part? They’re all vegan and cruelty-free, so you can fully relax knowing that no animals were harmed in the process of making these products.

Evening Routine

After getting home from work, school or uni and having dinner – most of us want to flop on the couch and zone out with some Netflix. For some, that might be the ultimate form of relaxation! But sometimes self-care can take a little bit of effort, especially when you’re tired and stressed out.

The best thing to do in this situation is to have a long, relaxing bath.

First, pop on a face mask so it can work its magic during your bath. This Butt Naked Hemp Clay Mask is packed with omega 3's and antioxidants to fight the signs of premature aging. Its anti-inflammatory properties also help to reduce redness, scarring, and bacteria.

To pamper your skin, we absolutely love the endota Rest and Restore Mint & Macadamia Recovery Bath.  Formulated with Macadamia Oil to nourish skin, Magnesium and Arnica to relax muscles and relieve tension and stiffness, and cooling Peppermint Oil relaxes the body and calms the senses.

We also love the The Physic Garden Glow Bath Soak. This mix of sea salt, calendula and rose is heavenly. Plus, it's packaged in a gorgeous glass bottle!

To take your bath to the next level – why not light a candle? (or two!)

These beautiful Maison Blanche candles are hand-poured in Sydney with high-quality soy wax and premium fragrance oils. For a smooth, earthy scent – try the Cedarwood & Patchouli candle. For something fresh and tropical scented, try the Mojo Reclaimed Wine Bottle Candle in Coconut & Lime.

After bathing and moisturising, there’s nothing better than a cup of tea and a (naughty) snack.

For a relaxing caffeine-free option, try the Love Tea - Sleep tea. With a calming blend of lavender, passionflower and valerian, this tea aids in relaxation and improves the quality of your sleep.

A snack with a cup of tea is essential! We can’t get enough of the Vego Whole Hazelnut Chocolate Bar. This delicious vegan chocolate bar is packed with mixed berries and made with organic, fair-trade ingredients. Zero guilt!

If you’re more of a white chocolate (and nutty) person, you’ll love the Pana Chocolate in White Macadamia. Pana chocolate is super ethical when sourcing their fair-trade ingredients – the cacao pods are hand-picked in Bolivia, the coconut is from the Philippines, and the cacao butter is from Peru!

To finish off your ethical self-care routine, pop a Black Chicken Remedies Pyramedial between your pillows - it helps you switch off, calm your mind and relax – perfect for a good night’s sleep!
