The Art & Craft Industry

There's no denying that a lot of art and craft industries use synthetics in their products. These synthetics, whilst they don't look out of the ordinary, are made up of harmful, toxic chemicals to imitate a natural product. For children especially, there needs to be a better way. This is where Naomi Parsons — mum, teacher and the woman behind Eco Crayons jumped in!

After Naomi had noticed her students chewing on crayons and seeing synthetic colours leeching, staining their skin and causing irritation, she begun her research and experimentation with eco crayons. She also knew the waste associated with arts and crafts and wanted to create a better solution for the environment, and to challenge people to think about this waste.

About Eco Crayons

Eco Crayons is an Australian brand making 100% plant based, you guessed it — crayons.

They come in all shapes and sizes, are bright, beautiful, vegan, biodegradable and non toxic. Each crayon is handmade from 100% natural ingredients, waxes and butters, and colour pigments derived from plants, roots, seeds and flowers. As the colours are natural they are perfectly safe if they make their way into little mouthes. Plus, did we mention they're vegan, nut free, egg free, gluten free, dairy free parrifin free and palm oil free?

Eco Packaging

Eco Crayons is not only aceing it with children and families, but they are doing good for the planet too.

The crayons themselves are biodegradable, so once you have finished using them you can put them in your green recycle bin — a huge tick for sustainability. The packaging is 100% recyclable and is vegan dye printed.

As for the Eco Paints, the whole kit and its contents are either biodegradable or compostable — another tick for sustainability! Any unused paint can be put in the compost bin. The paint tubes and kit can be recycled. The mixing cups, lids, wooden stirrers, spoons and tie can be put in the green organics recycling bin and they will break down over 12 weeks in an industrial recycling facility.

The Range

Moving on to the fun part, the range. Eco Crayons offers a number of vibrant and unique crayons, to make colouring in the rainbow fun! They've got everything from Unicorns, Animals, and Bugs, to Cars, Dinosaurs and Trains as well as your more standard Crayons and Crayon Sticks and much more!

There are 2 shape designs that are particularly special. They are the Rectangular Blocks and Leaves. These crayons are designed to encourage the development of fine motor skills and promote correct pencil grip, possible through the thumb indentation on the back of each block. The rectangular blocks purposely have sides of different widths to develop steiner inspired drawing techniques and forms. How cool!

We hope you enjoyed getting to know more about Eco Crayons vegan and non-toxic products. If your child enjoys arts and crafts, help let their creativity shine and shop the range here.
