The Why!

There's no denying that plastic-pollution is a huge problem across the globe, but one of the biggest contributors are single-use coffee cups. In Australia alone, 1 billion take away coffee cups are sent to landfill each year. That's about 2.7 million a day.

So for the founders at Good Edi — Catherine and Aniyo, the choice to do something about those huger numbers was obvious. Together, they created the Good Edi cup to help provide a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to the single-use takeaway cups. This went beyond the idea of developing an eco-friendly cup, because making it edible means there's no waste at all!

Good Edi's Origin Story

How did they come up with the idea of making a coffee cup edible? Well, Catherine and Aniyo decided to take their 20 years of experience in food processing and use it to their advantage. What this looked like? An edible cup of course. For us here at F&F, we love a good biccy or treat with our coffee and that's exactly what Catherine and Aniyo anticipated. So yes the cup is waste-free, but it also ticks the box for the need to have a snack after your drink. What's more is, the cup is made in Australia with locally and ethically sourced ingredients. How great is that?

Everday, Australians and people all over the world for that matter, are making conscious efforts to live a more sustainable life. Both Catherine and Aniyo find that in itself inspiring and it was enough for them to form a movement of their own. Now they're happily sharing this amazing innovation with like-minded individuals. And don't worry if you're not a coffee lover, the cups are also perfect for hot chocolate, tea, and gelato.

What Are These Edible Cups Made Of?

By now, we're sure the question on everyone's mind is 'so what are these cups made of?' Let us tell you! These edible cups are made with oats and grains locally sourced from Australia. They are 100% vegan and a good source of fibre and vitamin B. They're tasty and nutritious, and you'll be relieved to know, it won't affect the taste of your actual coffee. Other ingredients used, include coconut oil, salt, sugar, and a bran blend (made of oats, wheat, and rye). No preservatives or artificial flavours are added —making them good for you and the planet! Some people say the cup tastes like a waffle. Sounds so good to us!

Now that we know what they're made of, let's learn a little bit more about the cup itself. They are designed to hold their form, and can hold hot liquids for up to 8 hours before naturally breaking down. During that time, you can rest assured it won't leak whilst the hot liquid is inside. Unlike paper and disposable cups, they won’t add to landfill, a huge tick for us!

The cups are available in 'original' and a luxurious dip of 'chocolate' (for when sustainability also needs to be fancy). When stored correctly (airtight container) these cups have a shelf life between 6-9 months!

If you love coffee, it's time to think twice about how you drink yours. Making the switch to edible cups provides you with an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to a single-use takeaway cup. Every small effort counts!

What do you think about these Edible Cups? We think they are great and we can't wait to see them come to life in cafes across Australia.
