All About Eco Max Brushes

May 11, 2019by Jacqui - F&F

Here at F&F, we sell a range of cleaning brushes and one of our favourite brands is Eco Max, the makers of environmentally sustainable brushes.

Like us, they have strong values ingrained in their business and believe that everything we do should leave as minimal impact on the environment as possible.

We often get asked many questions about our range of eco-friendly cleaning brushes from Eco Max, so we’ve put together some of our most common FAQs to ensure you’re getting the most out of your brushes.

What are the Eco Max brushes made from?

Eco Max brushes are made from natural vegetable and coconut fibres, with only a small piece of galvanised wire.

Are they compostable?

Yes. At the end of their life, your Eco Max brushes can be put into your compost bin where they will begin to break down. The natural fibres and cotton cord will break down quickly, but please allow a little bit longer for the handle to break down.

When I put my brush in the composter, do I have to take out the wire beforehand?

No, the microorganisms in your compost bin will eat the vegetable fibre from the wire and once broken down, you can remove the wire and put it into your recycling bin.

How long will the Kitchen Brushes last for?

If used everyday, your brushes should last 6 months or more.

Do the brushes get greasy?

No. They are made from coconut fibre therefore have properties that will absorb grease and oils from dirty dishes and pans, meaning that the transfer of grease will not happen. When washed up, the grease and oil will be cleaned off and not be greasy or smell.

Do I need to wash my kitchen brushes?

No. The brushes are made from coconut fibre, therefore are naturally antibacterial and antifungal. The twisted design of the fibres enable the debris to be easily rinsed from the brush so it stays clean.

Can my Eco max brushes go in the dishwasher?

The brushes without a wooden handle can go into the dishwasher. This includes the Kitchen ScrubberBottle Brushes and the Tiger Brush. The timber handles will crack and warp if placed in the dishwasher.

Are the Eco Max brushes chemically treated?

No. The natural fibre heads and the timber handles are NOT sprayed with chemicals. As the coconut fibre is natural antifungal and antibacterial, it will never become mouldy, therefore does not need to be chemically treated.

Will my Eco Max brushes scratch pots and pans?

No, the natural fibres will not scratch your pots & pans. If you use a non-stick pan, we suggest using the Soft Sisal Non-Stick Pan Brush. Coconut fibre is great for washing stainless steel, enamelware and cast iron.

Can I use my Eco Max brushes on timber boards?

Yes. The brushes will gently clean your timber boards without tearing the surface. They are more effective at cleaning than a cloth.

Where are the Eco Max brushes made and who makes them?

All of the Eco Max brushes are handmade in Sri Lanka by a small family run company. Their focus is on employing underprivileged local women and they all receive in depth training. They are also paid above award wages and therefore are the workers are able to afford schooling for their children. This helps break the cycle of poverty in their family.

Are Eco Max a Fair Trade business?

Yes. They follow the 10 principles of Fair Trade in Sri Lanka & Australia. As they are Fair Trade, you can assure the entire supply chain is ethical.

Are the brushes vegan?

Yes! Just like everything at F&F.

Is the wood used on the Eco max brushes ethically sourced?

Yes. The timber used on the Eco max brushes is ethically source and comes from FSC certified plantations. The wood from these plantations is only cut down for timber when they have stopped producing rubber. Eco Max use offcuts from the Alstonia timber (a fast-growing plantation wood used for building in Sri Lanka).
