Its citrus scent has a gently sour undertone topped with a deliciously light sweet note. It brings to mind cleanliness, sunlight and a freshness that is cheerful and exhilarating. It is a lovely stimulating oil that can help clear emotional overload and revive fatigued spirits. Lemon essential oil can also be used to make your own cleaning products.

Blends well with: bergamot, eucalyptus, fennel, frankincense, ginger, juniper, lavender, neroli, rose, rosemary, sandalwood and ylang ylang.

Diffuser: Add 6-8 drops to your diffuser.

Quick fix: A few deep inhalations from the bottle can help when you are at work, in the car or anytime you need a quick break.

Shower: Add 2-3 drops to the corner of the shower.

Bath: Add up to 5 drops to a dispersant such as oil, then add to the bath.

Massage: Use a 2.5% dilution; up to 15 drops per 30ml carrier oil

Hand or foot bath: Add 2 drops to a bowl of water to treat nail and gout infections.

Compress: Add 2 drops to a bowl of water. Agitate a face washer in the water, wring out excess moisture, and apply the washer to the affected area. Repeat two or three times as the compress cools down or warms up.

Steam treatment: Add 2 drops to a bowl of steaming hot water. Place your face close to the bowl and cover the back of your head and bowl with a towel to trap the aromatic vapours. Keep eyes covered during treatment to avoid the risk of burns and scalding.

When applying citrus essential oils or blends that contain citrus topically, avoid direct sunlight for 12 hours as they may cause photosensitivity.

Is this suitable for use during pregnancy?

Use this oil with care. It is best used in a diffuser or diluted with a carrier oil (at a 1% ratio). Avoid using essential oils during the first trimester unless you are under the supervision of a qualified practitioner.

Is this suitable for children?

Essential oils are considered too strong for use on babies' skin (0-24 months) and can be overwhelming for their developing systems. When using in a diffuser, use fewer drops than you would for an adult (e.g. 2-3 drops).

Is this suitable to use around pets?

Citrus essential oils are not recommended for use around pets.

Can this oil be ingested?

Essential oils should not be taken internally unless you have consulted with a health professional or aromatherapist first.
