If you are looking for a durable alternative to plastic clothes pegs this is it. Grade 304 clothes pegs with a 1.8mm width and 6cm length are for standard washing in normal conditions. These are an ideal starter set for any home. You might buy a few sturdier pegs for sheets and heavier items or if you live in a particularly windy area.
- Grade 304
- 1.8mm width
- 6cm length
The nickel content in these pegs is twice as high as in the normal stainless steel wire pegs (Grade 201) so they have a much higher corrosion resistance, and because of the lower carbon and manganese content they are more durable and less prone to rust. If you live near the ocean we still don't recommend you leave outside and would recommend Marine Grade 316 pegs.
Stainless Steel Peg Guide
Grade 201 Pegs: The 201 grade stainless steel pegs are standard pegs. They come in 1.75mm width for normal conditions and light clothes and 2mm diameter steel for windy conditions and heavier garments. Use the 1.75mm pegs for socks, t shirts and light clothes. If you are hanging sheets and towels we recommend sturdier pegs so go for the 201 pegs with a 2mm diameter. We do not recommend you leave these pegs outside as they will corode over time. If you wish to leave outside look at the 316 marine grade stainless steel pegs. Great if you have an apartment, balcony or unit. Perfect to get started with stainless steel pegs.
Grade 304 Pegs: These pegs have more durable stainless steel. Higher corrosion resistance and can be left outside (although not recommended for long periods). Ideal for most homes and most conditions. If you live in a particularly windy area, and have heavy clothes, consider using stronger 2mm pegs rather than the 1.8mm pegs. If you have a family, larger home you might choose these pegs and mix and match with some 201 pegs.
Grade 316 Pegs:
The toughest steel that won't corrode in even the harshest environment. Marine grade steel is designed for salty conditions so you can leave outside and they won't corrode. These are available in two strengths, 1.7mm and 2mm. If you live by the ocean these pegs are for you.
Stronger Pegs: If you live in a windy area, or want some strong pegs, you might want to consider buying the 2mm size pegs which are available in three grades of steel so 210, 304 and 316.
Wire Pegs are an eco-friendly alternative to plastic clothes pegs that are durable and last! These stainless steel clothes pegs are available in different sizes, different strengths and different quality steel. You can see what peg might be best for you in our article.
Use to hang your clothes.
If you live near the ocean we still don't recommend you leave outside and would recommend Marine Grade 316 pegs.

Non-rust metal pegsBy: Lena Fitzgerald on 10 March 2019I really like the metal pegs. I'm glad I bought them. They don't get hot in the summer sun (as I thought they might). They don't slide along the line like other pegs, but that doesn't worry me. I leave my pegs on the line when not in use, so the real test will be years down the track to see if they outlast my regular pegs.
Love these!By: Anonymous on 22 February 2019Great, strong pegs! A joy to use!
Awesome pegsBy: Thea on 16 June 2018Got these pegs as my plastic ones were breaking and looking fir something long wearing and less environmentally damaging. Thesepegs are great! Easy to use and strong, finding them very versatile and strong for all my washing, even the gentle care fabrics. Great product.
Made to lastBy: Pauline on 12 May 2018These pegs are great, they're not cheap, but hopefully they will last decades.
AwesomeBy: MAz on 5 April 2018Very happy with these pegs. Was so tired of plastic ones breaking and these are economical and sturdy. A bit expensive but oh well I’m saving the planet
