The Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants
Woolworths and Landcare Australia are helping to fund the next generation of sustainability champions! Around one thousand primary schools and early learning centres were eligible to receive a grant of up to $1,000 as part of the 2022 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants.
All up, the program has awarded $1 million to help develop sustainable projects in primary schools and early learning centres (preschools, kindergartens, childcare centres) around Australia. Amazing, right?
“Educating young Australians on how we can grow a greener future through hands-on learning is an incredible way to make an impact for future generations, and help our local communities today,” says Woolworths Group Chief Marketing Officer, Andrew Hicks.

Funding Hands-On, Sustainable Projects For Kids Around Australia
So, what type of projects will the grants help to fund? Well, according to the organisers, the grants are there to help with projects that focus on sustainable food production, improving waste management practices or enhancing native habitats.
In primary schools and early learning centres, this might look like: a habitat restoration project, a bush tucker garden, a vegetable garden, or a composting or recycling project.
“Early childhood education and care plays an important role in sustainability,” said Samantha Page, CEO of Early Childhood Australia. “By participating in hands-on learning experiences — children learn to explore, appreciate and care for the environment around them,” she said.

Woolworths Has Contributed $3M To Schools Across Australia
The Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant program has been successfully operating since 2018. Since then, a total of 2,274 primary schools and early education centres across Australia have received $3 million worth of Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants! More than 200,000 students have engaged in hands-on sustainability projects — all thanks to the grant.
“To date, the program has seen more than 110,000 fruit, vegetable and herb plants added to school gardens across the country. Through taking part, students learn new skills and knowledge such as composting, worm farming and planting bush tucker gardens, as well as an increased awareness of sustainability issues,” he said.
