Where Can I Find Council Rebates For Cloth Nappies?

Reusable Cloth Nappies are surging in popularity as an eco-friendly, cost-effective alternative to disposable nappies. Considering that 2 billion disposable, plastic-lined nappies end up in landfill every year — we think it’s fantastic that more councils are encouraging these sustainable solutions! Councils offering rebates include:

Victoria - Banyule, Cardinia, Casey, Mornington Peninsula, Wyndham, Whittlesea, City of Wodonga, Shires of Towong, Indigo and Alpine Shire Council.

NSW - Federation Council, Albury City Council, Greater Hume and The City of Paramatta.

Bare and Boho have compiled a list too!

Make The Switch To Reusable Cloth Nappies — With Flora & Fauna!

Here at Flora & Fauna, we want to help you make eco-friendly, cost-effective swaps that are better for you and better for the environment. This is why we’re big fans of Reusable Cloth Nappies! Before transitioning to undies, a single child can go through 6,000-7,000 nappies. All around Australia, mums and dads chuck out 5.6 million disposable nappies every day.

We love that typically, a single reusable cloth nappy will fit your child between 3.5kg to 16kg. Brands like EcoNaps, based in Byron Bay, create gorgeous reusable cloth nappies, wet bags, travel change mats, swim nappies, nursing pads and wipes. Their cloth nappies include two convertible inserts for up to five absorption settings. We have cloth nappies from Designer Bums and Purebaby, too! If you’re unsure about how to use modern cloth nappies, please read our FAQ blog!

Where Can I Find Council Rebates For Reusable Menstrual Products?

Some Australian councils are offering rebates for reusable menstrual products, too! These rebates typically cover 50% of the cost of reusable menstrual products — like cloth pads and liners, menstrual cups, leak-proof underwear, and more.

Disposable period products are another form of single-use plastics that really aren’t talked about enough. Plastic-lined pads and tampons can take 500-800 years to break down in landfill. Crazy, right?

The amazing folks at Hannahpad have created a spreadsheet that compiles all of the menstrual and maternity rebates around Australia. To claim: provide proof that you live in that particular council (i.e. your driver's license, rates notice or utility bill) and provide proof of your purchase (receipt).

Make The Switch To Reusable Menstrual Products — With Flora & Fauna!

Reusable menstrual products have exploded in popularity recently! This is because the average woman will typically use 10,000-12,000 disposable menstrual products in her lifetime; all of which will exist in landfill for hundreds of years. Reusable Cloth Pads, Menstrual Cups and Period Underwear are quickly becoming the norm for many women.

Here at F&F, hannahpad is one of our most popular period care brands! They create gorgeous reusable pads that clip onto your undies. They have an external waterproof coating to prevent leaks. We love their Mini Starter Set

Our Menstrual Cups are the perfect zero waste, fuss-free option — just look at the reviews on our OrganiCup Menstrual Cup! We also have a growing range of Period Underwear.

We’re so happy to see more Australian councils encouraging the switch to reusable sanitary items! If your council doesn’t currently offer any rebates, the best thing you can do is reach out to them or sign a Sanitary Rebate Petition via Change.org

Remember, if you live in a council area that offers rebates for cloth nappies and reusable menstrual products, you can purchase the items from Flora & Fauna and upload your receipt to your council’s website.

If you require any assistance with this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email (info@floraandfauna.com.au) or call 02 8776 3620.
