The Benefits of Natural Toothpaste

Jun 29, 2017by Julie - F&F

Toothpaste is something we use twice a day, 365 days a year but do we spend enough time thinking about what's in it and what we're putting in our mouthes every day?

Toothpaste can contain plenty of nasty ingredients such as Sodium Laureth Sulphates, Diethanolamine, Propylene Glycol, Fillers and plenty more unpronouncable ingredients. These ingredients have shown to have a negative impact on your health.

SLS's helps make products foamy and are a known irritant along with being associated with hormonal imbalances. So avoid in general and definitely in toothpaste. Sadly you'll find SLS's everywhere and in many 'natural' brands of skin care so look at the ingredients.

Diethanolamine is an ingredient we strongly recommend you avoid. The EWG database rate this the highest in terms of being hazardous and very risky in terms of irritation and cancer, Avoid, avoid.

Propylene Glycol is a known irritant and another synthetic ingredient to avoid.

Fluoride is an ingredient that divides people. Dentists will tell you that you need Fluoride but there are more and more reports showing that high levels of fluoride have negative health impacts such as lower IQ and Thyroid Issues. The National Health and Medical Council and Dental Companies still endorse fluoride fully but it would be fair to say more research needs to be conducted and it is a grey area. All toothpastes at Flora & Fauna are fluoride free.

Natural toothpastes are free of these ingredients and prefer to contain ingredients such as calcium carbonate, xylitol, coconut oil, baking soda and essential oils. Some of the brands of natural toothpaste at Flora & Fauna include GrantsDr Bronner'sMy Magic Mud, Riddell's Creek and more. Some people like to use oil pulling and also use soap to clean their teeth so there are plenty of options to clean your teeth naturally.

Toothpastes from My Magic Mud use the benefits of charcoal to absorb toxins and help clean and whiten teeth. Shop all our Charcoal range and shop all of our natural toothpastes
