Araliya Community Coconut String Bag, biodegradable and sustainable, available online at Flora & Fauna.
Globally we use 10 billion plastic bags a week. It's a huge amount of waste which goes straight into landfill or our oceans damagine marine life. So we have a solution better for the environment and something we can use more than once. These string bags are made just from coconut fibres and are durable, long lasting and anti bacterial. Great for shopping and perfect for putting the kids toys in and veggies in the kitchen.
The bags are handmade by the Araliya Community in Sri Lanka. This community is a company where each member owns a share of the comany and its assets. It's a company where decisions are made fairly, they are paid fair wages and they contribute to a school for deaf in Sri Lanka.
Dimensions: 45cm long x 34cm (approximately). Each bag is handmade so sizes do vary.
Note: If any fibres fall out when new don't worry that's extra fibres left in from when it's made.
Scratchy materialBy: Anonymous on 9 April 2018I liked the idea of this bag, but its made of very coarse fibres and hurts to wear over shoulder. I would opt for one of the cotton market bags instead.
Great concept but not practicalBy: Senny on 3 May 2017like the title said, it is a great concept. How ever you put anything heavy in it and it moulds the shape of the bag to that side. Causing large holes in the design that then things fall through.
